Organic Merchant Essiac Tea blend is a purifying bitter decoction developed by Canadian Nurse Rene Caisse including sheep sorrel root. This time honoured Ojibwe formulation has traditional benefits and plant compounds that are anti inflammatory, anti oxidant, anti tumour, detoxifying and laxative which may support natural detoxification via the kidneys, liver and lymphatic system, soothe inflammation, tone digestion, fortify immunity and protect against chronic disease. Enjoy as a daily tonic.

Naturally caffeine free, essiac tea has a slightly earthy bitter taste and is designed to aid the body in removing toxins and wastes, allowing cellular renewal and improved health. Each ingredient in essiac tea blend helps boost the immune system and detoxify the body. It is also good for gastrointestinal diseases, diabetes and your overall good health. For a deeper understanding of how essiac tea works, it’s helpful to look at the traditional role of each herb in the blend.

Rene Caisse’s traditional formula has many health benefits and is commonly used for chronic conditions and as an alternative treatment for cancer. While it is not officially recommended as a cancer treatment, there are studies that show an improved sense of well being for those who consume it. Further studies indicate that the essiac tea benefits are linked with its potent antioxidant and DNA protective activity, properties that are common to natural anti cancer agents.

Organic Merchant organic herbal blend is a detox for our body and it will help discharge waste and toxins. There can be minor symptoms that appear when starting to drink essiac tea including, headaches, mild diarrhoea, nausea and a runny nose. The main side effects of this blend all come down to dosage. If too much of it is consumed, it could lead to gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhoea, diabetes, kidney stones and headaches/nausea. To avoid such side effects, we recommend starting with a small dose at first, until you know how your body reacts to it.

Miron violet glass is the best way to package herbs. This is because of the unique structure of the glass and its ability to maintain the quality of the product inside over a significant period of time.

Miron glass only allows violet light (ultraviolet A (UVA), infrared (IR) and violet lights) to penetrate through its surface and blocks out all other visible light within the spectrum that have been known to accelerate the decaying process. So no loss of colour and no signs of drying out! It also means that the therapeutic benefit of the tea stays intact for longer.

Miron glass is also eco friendly. It is made from natural raw materials and is reusable and 100% recyclable. This is extremely important to Organic Merchant as they are 100% plastic free in their production process and want to ensure all packaging they offer has the smallest impact on the enviroment as possible. A significantly longer shelf life, reusing and recycling all help to preserve our planet’s natural resources.

Dosage

The amount of tea consumed depends on you and the condition of your health. Typically, it is recommended a 30 ml dosage of herbal tea diluted in 60 ml of hot water. This should be sipped slowly, preferably before bed or on rising. Food should be avoided at least an hour after drinking the tea. The reason for sipping the tea is that the tongue is the initial point of interaction with the herbs and some of the components start their action here, specifically the bitter actives. Organic Merchant recommends starting with a small dose at first, until you know how your body reacts to it.

Essiac tea's history dates back to the early 1920s, when Canadian nurse Rene Caisse formulated this herbal blend based on a recipe from an old Indian medicine man. Rene Caisse named the blend 'Essiac' after her last name spelled backward and tested her formula under medical supervision in Ontario.

Caisse treated hundreds of people with her essiac tea formula, which garnered support from eminent medical professionals, including Dr. Frederick Banting, co-discoverer of insulin.

Essiac tea is said to be based on traditional Ojibwe knowledge and is widely used as an alternative anti-cancer treatment.

The tea is believed to have been given to Rene Caisse by a patient who originally received it from an Ontario Ojibwa medicine man.

This traditional remedy is is a purifying bitter decoction made from a potent mix of herbs including burdock root, organic sheep sorrel, slippery elm bark, and Turkish rhubarb root, designed to support natural detoxification, boost immunity, and promote overall wellness.

Yes, this essiac tea blend is certified organic, made from ingredients grown without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or herbicides. It contains organic burdock root, organic sheep sorrel, slippery elm, and Turkish rhubarb root, ensuring a high concentration of disease fighting antioxidants and no artificial colours or harmful substances.

The blend includes four key organic herbs with various health benefits: burdock root (a detoxifying herb known for its antioxidant properties), organic sheep sorrel (rich in vitamins A and C, supporting immune system), slippery elm bark (soothes mucous membranes and digestive tract), and Turkish rhubarb root (a gentle laxative and mild diuretic aiding detoxification).

Slippery elm bark is recognized for its soothing properties and is traditionally used to treat inflammatory conditions.

To prepare, add 10g of loose leaf essiac tea to 1 litre of filter, boiling it for 10 minutes. Allow to cool and steep further over night or approximately 10 hours.

For optimal benefits, consume the tea diluted in hot water, ideally on an empty stomach - two hours before or one hour after food.

Additionally, essiac tea can be brewed by steeping one organic tea bag in boiling water for 10 minutes, then cooled and stored in a glass bottle in the refrigerator.

A typical dosage recommendation for essiac tea is to start with 30 mL diluted in 60 mL of hot water, sipped slowly before bed or on rising.

To preserve the vitality and therapeutic actions of essiac tea, it should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For best results, store brewed tea in a glass bottle in the refrigerator to preserve its potency and antioxidant properties.

Essiac tea can be enjoyed hot or cold, and can also be added to smoothies or other drinks for additional health benefits.

Essiac tea is often marketed as a blood purifier that supports the liver and kidneys in toxin removal.

Laboratory studies indicate that essiac tea has potent antioxidant and DNA-protective activity.

Burdock root, a key ingredient in essiac tea, has been shown to suppress cancer cell growth in human cancer cell lines according to a 2016 review study.

Sheep sorrel, another ingredient in essiac tea, is believed to have properties that can destroy cancer cells and support the immune system due to its high vitamin A and C content.

While some anecdotal evidence and laboratory studies suggest essiac tea may possess antioxidant and DNA protective activity, there is currently no scientific consensus or approval from health authorities to use it as a treatment for breast cancer or other cancers.

Drinking Essiac tea has been associated with side effects including nausea, vomiting, frequent urination, increased bowel movements, skin issues, flu-like symptoms, headaches, and swollen glands.

Before using essiac tea, it is important to consult a doctor as it may cause side effects including nausea and headaches.

Alternatively, to avoid unpleasant side effects, begin with a small dose and gradually increase. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid essiac tea due to potential risks.

Essiac tea is made from four key ingredients: burdock root, sheep sorrel root and stem, slippery elm bark, and Indian rhubarb root. Turkish rhubarb root is included in Essiac tea for its laxative and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in detoxification.
