Passionate Skin Care Frequently Asked Questions

Which SkinFood is right for me?

Face - Normal/Oily/Combination/Acne

Choose SkinFood Serum.

When Beck (Passionate Skin Care Founder) was in high school she continuously had pimples. She got into the habit of stripping her skin of oils with nasty supermarket bought cleansers, oil-free moisturisers, alcohol wipes and intense spot treatment creams. Little did she know she was making things worse. How? We all have sebaceous glands within our pores, these glands are responsible for producing sebum, the natural oil that appears on your skin. With not enough sebum our skin becomes dry and damaged, with too much sebum our skin becomes oily with an increased chance of break outs. If you intentionally remove all of your skins natural oil it sends a msg to your sebaceous glands to produce more to compensate for what you have removed. See the problem? The more you try to remove the oil, the more your sebaceous glands will create!

The ingredients such as hemp and jojoba in SkinFood Serum mimic sebum. When you apply SkinFood Serum you adequately hydrate your skin allowing your sebaceous glands to "take a holiday" and stop over producing sebum, thus helping to balance your skins natural oils. Furthermore, jojoba oil (actually a wax) is a transporting wax and helps move the other oils in SkinFood deeper into the pores where they are more effective. This is also why when you apply SkinFood Serum your skin doesn't appear to be oily. Hemp oil also acts as an anti-inflammatory, reduces redness and speeds up pimple recovery time. Manuka oil is also in SkinFood Serum as it is anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and anti-pimple!! Apply 3-4 drops of SkinFood Serum to clean skin both morning and night.

Body - Dry/Eczema/Sun Damaged

Choose Vegan SkinFood.

When Passion Skin Care created Vegan SkinFood they did not realise that the addition of shea butter would force them to change the ratio of other oils which resulted in a highly effective treatment for dry skin. 3 years later and the best feedback they receive for treatment of dry, damaged skin is from SkinFoodies using Vegan SkinFoodLet's talk about shea butter. Passionate Skin Care use fair trade shea butter from Ghana in their Vegan SkinFood. Ghana arguably has the best shea butter in the world because the nuts have the most desirable chemical balance, and the traditional processing methods create a very clean butter. Some traditional uses of shea butter include treatment of very dry skin, eczema, blemishes, skin discolorations, scars, stretch marks and wrinkles. It is also used as massage oil for babies and adults alike, and also a relaxer for stiff muscles due to it containing anti inflammatory, emollient and humectant properties. They believe that the outstanding quality shea butter combined with coconut oil, hemp oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil and manuka oil in the correct ratios why our Vegan SkinFood is so highly effective when applied to dry, irritated and damaged skin. When applying to the body make sure the skin is clean then apply liberally, keeping in mind that a little goes a very long way. Apply more (and more frequently) to eczema prone skin. When applying to the face you'll only need half a pea size. For problem areas apply more. Don't worry, it wont block your pores!

Can I use the Vegan SkinFood on my face?

Yes, due to the ratio of oils and the use of Jojoba oil Passionate Skin Care, Vegan SkinFood won't block pores. It is however recommend that you use SkinFood Serum for a lighter application for the face. SkinFood Serum has so far delivered the best results when applied to acne prone skin.

I have eczema and extremely dry skin. Which SkinFood should I choose?

Choose Vegan SkinFood. The addition of fair trade shea butter and ratio of oils is most effective.

How do I use SkinFood?

There is no perfect way to use SkinFood as everyone's needs are different. Start however with the below guidelines and adjust as needed.

Vegan SkinFood - A little goes a long way! For example: a pea size amount should be enough for one entire arm. Always apply to clean skin and allow a few minutes for balm to absorb. When applying to problem skin make sure the skin is clean than apply liberally (approx double the usual amount).

SkinFood Serum - Massage 3-4 drops onto your face after washing morning and evening. It's that simple! You can apply an extra drop or two to any problem areas such as crows feet, acne scars, wrinkles.

Do you have other products? Like cleansers, toners, masks?

Every ingredient and formulation is meticulously researched and trialled (no animal testing of course!!!!!) to guarantee the highest quality and effectiveness. Due to this, it can take a little longer than usual. Sign up to Sassy Organics newsletter to be the first to learn when we receive new products.

Can I apply SkinFood to my already oily skin (face)? Won't it cause me to break out?

SkinFood is great for the face! We recommend the SkinFood Serum for oily skin (face) as it contains the perfect combination of sebum mimicking oils which will work on balancing your oils - and if your skin is too oily this is EXACTLY what you need! Passionate Skin Care Serum will not cause you to break out however some people experience a week of "purging" where your skin gets slightly worse before it gets better. This is your skin going through a small detox, keep going with your serum, as with any detox you will start to see improvements.

The top of my SkinFood looks like it has a strange texture. What can cause this? Is it ok to use?

Ohhh the unpredictable beauty of working with mother nature!! This too is the result of temperature change. It's simply the coconut oil pulling away from the other ingredients (if you're familiar with coconut oil you'll know how quickly it can go from liquid to hard and back again with temperature change). Do not fear!! This has not damaged the integrity of the product.

Is manuka oil vegan? How is it different to manuka honey?

Yes, manuka oil is vegan. Manuka oil is steam distilled from the manuka leaf directly (think of tea tree oil). This is totally different to manuka honey which, like any honey, is not vegan as it is a bee (animal) by product.

Is Passionate Skin Care shea butter fair trade?

Absolutely. Shea butter used in Passionate Skin Care products comes from Zabzugu – Tatale district in Tamale located in the Northern part of Ghana. Shea butter is sourced directly from women’s co operatives that operate within the region.

Why isn't the jojoba oil certified organic?

There are high costs involved when farms apply to become certified organic, costs that can be unrealistic for some small, family run farms. Passionate Skin Care could easily switch to a certified organic supplier however, they have made the decision to support a small, family run farm based in North QLD instead. When they trialled jojoba oils, the farm we decided to go with out did all the others in quality, purity and, in their opinion, farming practices. Based on their practices, Passionate Skin Care know that their jojoba is organic, they just haven't applied for certification therefore we can't make claims.
